Southwell Farm
Well let's get bloggin! We got back from the Southwell homestead, a word not used much these days, and had a great time. Getting there was a challenge. We drove to Las Vegas to catch a flight to Denver and then drove north into Wyoming into neverland at midnight trying not to hit any wildlife. Long day. But when we got up in the morning we went outside and took in the beautiful view of the surroundings.
To some, Wyoming is blah, but to me the possibilities are endless. So many fun things for the kids to do. They took to the animals really well, got in some horseback riding and running from the bulls (Nate, Ryan and Jared). If you can blow off the masses of flies and heat, then you're in good shape. The lake was dried up, but in its place grew a large pasture of foxtail brush that looked really cool. The kids would run out and drop in it and they would disappear. The only problem there was that it was also where the Scottish hairy bull liked to roam. So we had to keep some distance. For me, one of the best parts was being able to walk around with my dad and document his memories of the farm. Like the natural well (south of the house =) that sill produces fresh water, the old lake, outhouse, the bogs, Huntley High School, class of 15, and of course the house he built for his mom so she didn't have to live in a hot shack without running water or a toilet. I tell you, farmers are tough people. My dad definately grew up in a lifestyle that doesnt exist today. I got it all on HD, available upon request in 2008. Check out the full photo gallery here. Peer pressure...it'll get ya every time! I love the blog. I knew you were brewing up something creative. Now it's just going to kill me that I don't know how to put cool things up in that title part. I will fully be expecting to hear all about your lives as if I don't already know, neighbor!
Way to cave in and do what all your friends are doing! And way to make the rest of us look bad because your blog is cooler.
